Description
A Very Rare EARLY 19th Century Pennsylvania "SMALL SIZED" REDWARE BULBOUS SHAPED CIDER PITCHER IN A VERY RARE DARK BROWN GLAZE.
SOUTH EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, 19th century, Circa 1840-1860.
GREAT EARLY FORM TO FIND IN A SMALL PIECE.
VERY THICK WALLED PIECE OF EARLY REDWARE WITH AN EARLY FORMED BULBOUS BODY AN APPLIED HANDLE AND A WELL FORMED TOP LIP AND SPOUT.
THE DARK BROWN GLAZE IS QUITE UNUSUAL AND IS USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE COWDEN POTTERY COMPANY.
Nice condition with only the usual wear and abrasions and a few very minute chips to the spout. There are no lines or cracks.
VERY NICE EARLY FORM.
ONLY 6" tall and about 4" at the base.
Typical wear and imperfections with age.
There is the usual minor roughness on the top as seen in the photos.
